Resident Spotlight: Kimyetta Robinson, DO

The Student Association of the ACOFP continues to partner with the Resident Council on personal interviews. We are excited about the insights and perspectives our residents provide students in planning for residency and engaging in volunteer opportunities within ACOFP.

This month, students interviewed Kimyetta Robinson, DO, to learn more about her residency program, why she chose her program, what a typical day is like and what advice she has for students.

Education and Residency

Why did you choose this residency program?

I chose my residency program based on characteristics that were important to me, including location, distance from my hometown, resident experience and osteopathic recognition.

What is a typical day like in your life as a resident?

Family medicine residency can take you on a new adventure every month—or even every week sometimes. A typical day on inpatient medicine includes pre-rounding early in the morning, followed by rounding with the attending. Afternoons typically allow for some informal teaching. On certain weeks, we also respond to rapid responses and codes for hospital emergencies.

Why did you choose family medicine?

I chose family medicine because it gives you the opportunity to see a wide variety of patients and the opportunity to perform numerous procedures. Family medicine allows and requires you to stay up-to-date on all the latest medical information.

What is your one word of advice to students?

Become involved in the ACOFP to learn what family medicine physicians have to offer their communities! You have the option to specialize in any area of family medicine that you like via fellowship or simply by completing more CME or certifications.
