ACOFP offers diverse leadership opportunities for its members at every career stage. Members can engage by joining committees, work groups, or state societies or becoming delegates for the ACOFP Congress of Delegates.
Additionally, there are opportunities to apply for the ACOFP Board of Governors. These roles allow members to contribute to conference program development, advocacy efforts, and more. ACOFP provides resources and support to help members succeed in their leadership roles, fostering professional growth and enhancing the impact of osteopathic family medicine.

ACOFP
Congress of Delegates
The ACOFP Congress of Delegates convenes annually just before the start of the Annual Convention & Scientific Seminars, with Reference Committee meetings held virtually on the second Saturday in March. Delegates are entrusted with the responsibility of considering not only the interests of their state societies but also the broader welfare of the college and the osteopathic family medicine profession.
If you are interested in serving as a delegate, please submit your name for consideration. ACOFP state society executive directors will receive a list of members who express interest in this volunteer opportunity, as they are responsible for finalizing their state delegate and alternate delegate rosters. Applications are accepted annually in late November.
Delegate Responsibilities
- Work with colleagues to draft resolutions for consideration prior to the meeting.
- Review all resolutions and meeting materials.
- Serve and/or testify at the reference committee hearings.
- Participate in State Society caucuses.
- Testify and vote on the recommendations of the reference committee for action after the reference committees present their reports.
- Report highlights of the meeting to the leadership or membership of the organizations they represent following the meeting.
Alternate Delegate Responsibilities
- May be seated in the visitors’ section until serving in the "delegate" capacity.
- Testify on resolutions in reference committees.
- Participate in State Society caucuses.
- Cannot introduce resolutions or vote unless temporarily credentialed to substitute for a delegate.
- When credentialed as a delegate, can:
- Speak and debate on the floor.
- Offer amendments to pending matters.
- Make motions and vote on the outcome of items of business.
- Must be formally re-credentialed as a delegate to access the floor.
