Education and Residency

College of Osteopathic Medicine: West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
Residency Program: Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan

Why did you choose family medicine?

I chose family medicine because I love being able to help literally anyone who walks through those clinic doors. My goal when treating patients is to provide an open space with active listening and to empower them with my support and medical toolkit.

What is a typical day like in your life as a resident?

As a PGY-3 in my program, I feel that every day residency tends to be a bit different, depending on the rotation and call schedule, but I love making time for family and friends outside of residency.

What do you like to do in your time outside of residency?

Most recently, I have picked up my childhood passion of reading again—shout-out to Mitch Albom and Atul Gawande!

Why did you volunteer to join the Resident Council?

I chose to join ACOFP Resident Council because I think there is always so much work to be done in promoting osteopathy as a tool for residents to help their patients. It is not just a manual technique but rather an entirely unique thought process—one that broadens our differential and allows us to offer more treatment options.

What is your one word of advice to students?

My one piece of advice to medical students is to trust your gut, because somewhere in there, you are naturally drawn to medicine. We have all worked so hard to be here, and you deserve this just as much as anyone else.
